Integrated POS for DP Express

DP Express, the North East furniture retailer, has implemented a new store solution into its estate of outlets throughout the UK. The J2 touchscreen terminals running Cybertills application were supplied and integrated by Box Technologies to over 40 stores nationwide.

DP Express has been trading for over 20 years, initially as Durham Pine but rebranded in November 2003 to reflect their more broader furniture ranges. Accelerated growth over the last five years has resulted in nationwide coverage from as far North as Inverness and South as Exeter. As expansion continues with further stores, both company owned and franchised, opening throughout 2004 DP saw an increasing need to review their IT systems to support this growth.

Key requirements for them included a store based solution which gave them online stock control at branch level and a front end retail stock management system that was simple to use. This would enable them to view sales and stock information from the stores on what was selling and when, in addition to what was in stock for customer enquiries and orders.

The solution they chose was from Cybertill, offering an established EPoS system with built in Ecommerce interface installed on the J2 12.1” touchscreens at the till points allowing an easy to use, efficient solution for both staff and customers.

The implementation including all hardware and installation requirements was undertaken by Box Technologies. This is a typical installation for Box utilising best of breed software and hardware configured and installed as a total solution.

Paul McDonald, financial director comments: “After researching the market looking for a suitable supplier, we made our decision not only on the solution and the price, but on the confidence we gained by meeting with both the Cybertill people and their existing customers. As we were first time users in the stores, we wanted a system we could use straight away– we sell furniture, we’re not IT experts!”

Store development forms a key part of the companies current strategy, increasing the size of stores; by opening new stores on retail parks and relocating many high street stores. During 2004 the company plans to open of a further 22 new stores.
